Laureate of the State Prize in Science, Technology and Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Kaldybai Dzhaylovich Praliyev is a prominent scientist of the country in the field of organic chemistry and chemistry of medicinal substances. The main scientific direction of research of Praliyev K.D. is the development of methods of fine organic synthesis, the study of stereochemistry and conformational analysis of mono- and bicyclic ketopiperidines, 3,7-diazabicyclo [3.3.1]nonan-9-ones and some natural alkaloids, the development of ways of rational use of the synthetic capabilities of these aminoketones, alkaloids and their derivatives for the synthesis of hard-to-find substances and analogues of natural compounds, establishing the relationship between the fine chemical structure and biological activity in order to identify and create new harmless and highly effective domestic medicines.
Praliyev K.D. was born on June 29, 1941 in the Karabulak village located in Sairam district, South Kazakhstan region. In 1965 he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Chemistry of the Kazakh State University named after S.M. Kirov, in 1970 he defended his candidate’s thesis, and in 1991 he defended his doctoral dissertation. In 1992 he received the title of professor. Since 2004 – Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
While still a student in 1964 Praliyev K.D. linked his labor and scientific activities with JSC “Institute of Chemical Sciences named after A.B. Bekturov”, laboratory of chemistry of synthetic and natural medicinal substances. Here he embarked on theoretical and experimental research in the field of organic chemistry, and for nearly 60 years of work, he rose from an ordinary laboratory assistant to the Deputy General Director of the Institute for scientific work. Praliyev K.D. is the head of the laboratory of chemistry of synthetic and natural medicinal substances.
Under the leadership of Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Praliyev K.D. several thousand new piperidine-containing compounds were synthesized, and their dimensional structure was established. Among the synthesized compounds, highly effective analgesics, anesthetics, antirhythmics, antispasmodics, immunostimulants and immunomodulators, antibacterial agents, tuberculostatics, etc. have been found. To the major achievements of the school of the academician of the NAS RK Praliyev K.D identification of substances with powerful analgesic non-narcotic action and opiate antagonistic activity, as well as anti-tuberculosis and antidiabetic activity.
A number of large scientific projects are carried out in close and fruitful scientific cooperation with scientists from leading research centers in the United States (Universities of Oklahoma, New York, Medical Science Center of Syracuse), Europe (Universities of Ghent (Belgium), Cardiff (Great Britain), Russia (SSRIOChT of Moscow, NRChPhI of Novokuznetsk, NIOCh of Novosibirsk), Belarus (Grodno State Medical University) within the framework of grants from International Scientific Foundations such as ISTC, CRDF and INTAS.
Major contribution of the academician of NAS RK Praliyev K.D. into the theory and practice of fine organic synthesis and chemistry of medicinal substances, which has received international recognition, is reflected in more than 1200 scientific publications, including 7 monographs and brochures, more than 300 titles of protection on the subject of invention, of which 20 are patents of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation and 3 patents from leading foreign countries. The results of his school’s research have been published in scientific journals indexed in the Web of Science and Scopus databases. Hirsch index of academician Praliyev K.D. is 6.
Particularly noteworthy the active innovative activity of the academician of the NAS RK Praliyev K.D., aimed at introducing new highly effective and original medicines into the medical practice of the CIS countries. Large-scale research works on the development of drugs based on 4-oxopiperidines has led to the establishment of the basic principles for the creation of new analgesic substances. The result of these works is the creation by K.D. Praliyev together with employees in collaboration with from Novokuznetsk NIHFI, of a synthetic substitute for morphine – PROSIDOL. PROSIDOL is included in the official publications of the state registers of vital medicines of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the Encyclopedia of Medicines.
Under the general supervision of Praliev K.D. by joint efforts of scientists and specialists from the Institute of Chemistry, Kazakh State Medical University and Novokuznetsk NIHFI, the drug KAZKAIN was created, which is of particular interest for practical medicine, including military field medicine and disaster medicine, as a local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic agent, this drug has successfully passed the first phase of clinical trials in four leading clinics in Moscow and the Moscow region.
Praliyev K.D. always in the center of scientific and organizational activities not only of the Institute of Chemistry, but of the whole country. Over the years, he is the deputy chairman of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Chemistry, Chairman or Deputy Chairman of the Dissertation Council of the Institute of Chemistry, an active member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a member of various Scientific and Technical Councils and the editorial board of scientific journals.
He created a scientific school of organic synthetics, which is actively and successfully working in science, education and business. Among his students, there are 8 doctors, 34 candidates of sciences and 3 doctors of philosophy PhD in chemical sciences.
The country appreciated the outstanding achievements in science, scientific-organizational and social activities of the academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Praliyev K.D.. He was awarded the title of laureate of the prize of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR (1986) in the field of science and technology, the prize named after academician K.I. Satpayev (2000) and the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan “in the field of science, technology and education” (2003). He was awarded the medal “Kazakhstan Respublikasynyn tauelsizdigine 10 zhyl” (2001), badges “For merits in the development of science of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2002) and “Enbek ardageri” (2021). In 2016 he was awarded the title “Honored Inventor of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.
